Dr Amir Khandani has been appointed the inaugural chair holder of the NSERC-Nortel Chair in Advanced Telecommunications Technologies at the Univ of Waterloo (U of W). Khandani will lead a research program focused on third generation (3G) and fourth generation (4G) broadband wireless technologies. The move to 4G requires a major increase in speed and bandwidth capabilities to facilitate services such as mobile telehealth, rapid music downloads, mobile gaming and live sports. Khandani teaches electrical and computer engineering at U of W specializing in communication systems design.
